To the IslandEarth family,
Eleven years ago, I had the privilege of interviewing a vibrant young man whose presence radiated positivity, a man who would leave an indelible mark on all of us. That man was Shawn.
Shawn’s association with IslandEarth spanned over a decade. He wasn’t just an employee; he was a cornerstone upon which we built the foundation of our company. Shawn’s determination, resilience, and unwavering belief propelled us forward from our humble beginnings, with only a handful of us striving to grow the company.
In a world where genuine kindness can be rare, Shawn stood out as an embodiment of natural warmth. His smile – oh, that infectious smile – had the power to illuminate even the darkest of rooms. He was a beacon of positivity, a fact evident in his unyielding spirit and enthusiasm.
Monday mornings with Shawn were a special tradition. He’d arrive at IslandEarth yard with the first light of dawn, preparing his truck for his crew, ensuring everything was in order. But what was most remarkable was his commitment to greeting every single one of us, sharing snippets of his weekend adventures, be it the mesmerizing bird shots he had captured or the intricacies of his latest Plane/Ship carving.
The early days of IslandEarth were challenging. We took on an assortment of jobs, some more demanding than others. But Shawn’s commitment never wavered. In those trying times, I vividly remember his reassuring voice, “Deano, no problem. You call, I haul.” This simple phrase became a testament to his unwavering dedication and zest.
Shawn was more than just a colleague; he was a friend, a confidant, and a brother to many of us. As we reminisce about our shared moments, I’m constantly reminded of his immense professional and personal contribution. His legacy isn’t just about the growth he spurred in IslandEarth but also about the lives he touched and the joy he spread.
In the wake of this profound loss, I find solace in imagining Shawn as a bird, soaring freely in the vast blue sky, watching over each of us. His spirit, unbound and eternal, will forever echo in our hearts.
Shawn, you left us too soon, but the memories we crafted together will be cherished forever. Until we meet again, fly high, dear friend.
